Oregon Coast June 2023

Vicki and I spent eight days exploring the Oregon Coast by car, from north to south, starting in Washington near the Columbia River and finishing up at the border with California.  We did our best to see everything of interest along US Highway 101, but of course that’s impossible, so let’s just say that we saw everything we had time for.  Oregon has a truly magnificent and beautiful coastline, and we really enjoyed this road trip.

White Sands National Park Oct 2021

As part of our big 2021 Road Trip, Vicki and I drove to White Sands National Park in Alamagordo, New Mexico, and checked out the beautiful Sand Dunes.  We had heard about backpacking in the park, but discovered that the backcountry camping area was closed due to Covid.   So, we modified our plans and explored the park by car.

Jewell Key, Florida

Visiting my sister in Florida, we took a boat ride from Everglades City out through Chokoloskee Bay to Jewell Key via Sandfly Pass.  We stopped at the campground on the key and walked around, viewing the Gulf of Mexico out beyond the mangrove islands.  We came back via Indian Key Pass, making a big loop.

Kayaking on the Great South Bay, NY

My brother and I decided to take a twilight paddle across the Great South Bay, from Jones Beach Island to Massapequa. We started in the early evening, and paddled into the night, on a calm evening with little wind and a slack tide.  We saw a beautiful sunset and enjoyed the wildlife of the Great South Bay.
