San Jacinto May 2011

The three of us (my brother, my son, and I) decided to head out to San Jacinto Peak for some backpacking and peak-bagging a day before the start of the Memorial Day Weekend madness. We were hoping for some quiet time in the wilderness after working hard on a big home-improvement project. Now, this hike had all been scheduled months in advance, so I really wasn’t sure what the conditions would be like up at high elevation. In a prior year I ended up camping on top of three feet of snow on a Memorial Day Weekend. And this year, 2011, was a big year for snow in California.

My son on the saddle just east of Cornell Peak. San Gorgonio Mountain is in the distance.
