I went on a four day solo backpacking trek in the Sierra Nevada, hiking up the Cottonwood Lakes Trail, over Old Army Pass to Soldier Lake, followed by a long day hiking cross-country through the spectacular Miter Basin, then over Crabtree Pass and down past the Crabtree Lakes to Crabtree Meadow, where I barely made it into my tent before an hours-long thunderstorm hit.  I spent the next two days hiking back to my car in Horseshoe Meadows via the Pacific Crest Trail.

Vicki and I went on a three day backpacking trek in the Sierra Nevada, hiking up the Golden Trout Lakes Trail out of Onion Valley.  We met another backpacker and her puppy, and watched her go fly fishing in Golden Trout Lake.  Vicki got to taste some of the freshest trout imaginable that day.  And we made a new friend, too!

I went on a Six Day solo backpacking trek in the High Sierra, hiking the classic loop from South Lake to North Lake, crossing Bishop Pass to Dusy Basin, climbing up Le Conte Canyon to Muir Pass, descending into the spectacular Evolution Basin, and, finally, climbing up and over Piute Pass.  It felt great to be back in the Sierra once again.

I took a fun dayhike up and around Chocolate Peak on the Bishop Pass Trail, from the South Lake Trailhead; it was the final part of my three-day plan to get acclimated to high elevation on an upcoming multi-day trek.  I hiked over 7 miles and climbed 1600 feet, and saw many beautiful lakes and mountains.  The South Fork Bishop Creek valley is one of the loveliest places in the High Sierra, and well worth exploring.

I took a long dayhike up to the Cottonwood Lakes Basin from the Horseshoe Meadows Trailhead in Lone Pine; it was part of my plan to get acclimated to high elevation on an upcoming multi-day trek.  After raining a bit in the early morning, it turned out to be a great hiking day, with some lovely high cumulus clouds.

I took a fun dayhike up to Lone Pine Lake from the Mount Whitney Trailhead in Whitney Portal, as part of my plan to get acclimated to high elevation on an upcoming hike.  It was perfect hiking weather, and a beautiful day to be up in the High Sierra!
